Come Holy Spirit
-Veni, Sancté Spiritus-
The Holy Spirit is part of the Holy and undivided Trinity that includes God: the Father & Mother, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Often, divine nature is depicted as fire in scripture. This is possibly, in part, because of our limited vocabulary and inability to understand the full magnitude of the divine.
The Holy Spirit is often explained as that inner voice or feeling of what to do or how to respond to something. We have all experienced this in some way, whether as just an understanding of “the right thing to do” or a stronger urge or desire to pursue something.
It is our hope that you will welcome the Spirit as you explore this spiritual walk and in your daily life, opening your heart and mind to new possibilities. Don’t worry, there will be no literal fires here… however you may notice a burning desire to do something, to pray, or to reflect more deeply. We urge you to lean into that. You may be surprised at what is revealed. This is a practice that can be done daily and the results are sure to challenge you, and more importantly bless you abundantly.
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 - To each is given the manifestations of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.
Prayer: Of the Holy Spirit
Almighty and most merciful God, grant that by the indwelling of your Holy Spirit we may be enlightened and strengthened for your service; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
(Book of Common Prayer, 1979; pg. 251.)
Ponderings…
How might acknowledging the Holy Spirit guide you in your daily life? What does this feel or look like for you? How can you be intentional in noticing and responding to this presence?
