God Created the Earth
-God created all things, including the heavens and the earth.-
What comes to mind when you see when you see this simple view of the earth? The vast array of all of creation, the earth and all of nature on it is simple for God, but for us it is quite complex.
Starting simple and moving into more complex thoughts is a natural way for us to learn and grow. We walk before we run, and we learn letters and sounds before we can begin to formulate words. There is no doubt that God could have made everything into being with one breath, but God was intentional in increasing complexity. Scripture states that all was created in six days, which may or may not be taken literally. God is past, present, and future so no one can be sure of the exact time frame.
As we start to notice simple opportunities of observing light and offering love to illuminate our lives, then not only do we see the beauty of the simple, but we become wiser as we journey together learning about light and love on a larger scale. This being in relationship with one another and creation helps us understand and appreciate God’s love more clearly.
Genesis 1:1-4 - In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.”
Prayer: For Knowledge of God’s Creation
Almighty and everlasting God, you made the universe with its marvelous order, its atoms, worlds, and galaxies, and the infinite complexity of living creatures: Grant that, as we probe the mysteries of your creation, we may come to know you more truly, and more surely fulfill our role in your eternal purpose; in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
(Book of Common Prayer, 1979; pg. 827.)
Ponderings…
How can you look for light in nature? What can you do to be in relationship with creation? How can your exploration of creation and nature bring you more closely to God our creator?
